Three meals a day. That’s the norm in modern American society.
Food can quickly become a headache, a hassle, another day
avoiding the scale, another stomach ache from an impulsive choice, another
decision to reach for frozen pizza as dinner time has long passed by and hunger
pangs rule, another day of surviving with something—anything—to pass as a meal.
Healthy, joyful eating
doesn’t have to be difficult.
Restful Kitchen is a quest to find the joy, purpose, and beauty
in food preparation. It’s a journey that leaves behind all guilt and frustration.
It’s a lifelong mission that seeks to discover peace and laughter among the spatulas
and slow cookers. It’s a daily progression of embracing the entire experience
of food as it was designed to be.
I’m Erika: Jesus-follower, author, editor, wife, and stay-at-home
mama of two. Food isn’t my passion, and cooking isn’t my hobby. Yet I’ve
discovered that I don’t have a choice regarding food preparation: it’s inevitable.
I do have a choice in two other areas:
1.
The nutritive value of the food I put on
the table
2.
My attitude towards it: drudgery or joy
And it isn’t any harder to choose joy.
Everyone eats. At Restful Kitchen, I believe whole food—food as
close as possible to the way God created it—is the best and most healthful
choice. However, I also know—so well—that consumer society is far from
embracing the whole food mindset, and thus, for everyone on this journey, it’s
just that: a journey.
Perhaps you’ve chosen your path: keto, vegan, dairy-free,

Short posts sharing a broad, eternal view
of food and food preparation
Life isn’t all about food. Yet improved efficiency in the kitchen
yields improved productivity and more time to invest elsewhere.
Even if just the percentage of time that is spent in the
kitchen could be transformed into moments of rest and joy, and the result could
be happy, healthy meals on the table a bit more often, I believe it’s worth a
shot.
